Giving real estate buyers a simple and clear map with photos for learning about homes.
User research showed the Windermere search experience to be cluttered and difficult to navigate, with seven different ways to search for a property on the homepage. User research told us that homebuyers wanted to see big photos fast, listings on a map, and additional information on hover and in a list.
I began by usability testing the existing site and competitor sites. Our budget was small. After an initial test with a consultant, I performed usability testing once a week at a coffee shop in the building. I then redesigned the site from the perspective of an optimized experience starting with a single searchbox.
We continued testing and refinement over the course of the next year. Listings are delivered on a map with hover information and a sidebar list. Home buyers find it dramatically easier to find properties and engage and agent. Sales increased and agent engagement with the franchise went up.
